Ecstasy Could Treat Blood Cancer

BRIMINGHAM – Scientists at Birmingham University have discovered a potential form of MDMA (ecstasy) which can be used to treat blood cancers.

Studies have been published in Investigational New Drugs, claiming variants of reliable MDMA demonstrated success in ‘redesigning the drug for use as a cancer killer drug in the treatment of blood related diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

These new findings are based on previous laboratory tests in which at least half of cancer that affects white blood cells respond to the destruction of the cancerous growth which is the character of psychotropic drugs, including ecstasy, pills and weight loss depression medications like Prozac.

Since the experiments were conducted in a test tube, the team explained that their findings are making practical experimental compound, still has some problems, especially to determine the proper dose of MDMA to treat malignant cancer that can kill the patient. Similarly, as quoted by TG Daily, Saturday (20/08/2011).

Therefore, researchers are working to separate the medicinal properties of MDMA that destroys cancerous and can lead to poisoning as a whole. This led to the discovery of drugs that specifically modified in the form of ecstasy that up to 100 times more effective in attacking and destroying cancer cells.

“We’re starting to see a more effective structure of the compound. Lipophilic (kemempuan compounds to dissolve in lipids), in which lipids can form the cell wall is more visible,” explains lead author Professor John Gordon, of the University of Birmingham from the Immunology and Infection.

According to Gordon, this discovery is an exciting step by using a modified form of MDMA to help cure people suffering from blood cancer.

“Although we do not want to give people false hope, the results of this study hold the potential to be improvements in cancer care in the years ahead,” he added.

Scientific Director of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Research, Dr David Grant, also revealed that the drug ecstasy from a prospect that can destroy the blood cancer. A treatment that is really interesting. Further research is still needed, but this research is a significant step forward in developing a potential new cancer drug.
